Kaspersky Pure 2015 Technical Preview is a first look at Kaspersky's next generation security suite.
Installation follows the usual Kaspersky rules. You're warned about incompatible applications, but can choose to install anyway; the program asks you for an activation code; choose the "trial" option instead and Kaspersky Pure activates automatically, giving you a 91 day licence.
Kaspersky has yet to detail any new features, as we write, but the most obvious change so far is the simplified, subdued interface. Plain buttons highlight four main task areas: "Scan", "Updater", "Safe Banking" and "Parental Controls". Click any of these and a new pane fades into place. And for the most part this also keeps options to a minimum, with just a few key buttons to consider.
Further options aren't too far away, though. A "Show Additional Tools" dialog lists functions including On-screen keyboard, Quarantine, Vulnerability Scan, Browser Configuration, Privacy Cleaner, Kaspersky Rescue Disk and Microsoft Windows Troubleshooting.
All the usual settings are on offer, too, and the program seems surprisingly complete for a very first public release.
Verdict:
Kaspersky Pure Technical Preview doesn't appear significantly different to the 2014 edition, and so most people can safely ignore it for now. If you're a fan of the company, though, there's perhaps an hour or two of entertainment to be had in searching for any changes. And it seems quite stable, although you should still be careful: this is an early beta, don't install it anywhere unless you've a full system backup to hand.
